Zenmuse XTR Review

Product Review

In addition to its new and successful Zenmuse XT thermal photography device, DJI launced the Zenmuse XTR Advanced Radiometry 640 FAST version.

The new Zenmuse Radiometry camera provides twice the temperature measurement accuracy of the standard Zenmuse XT. In addition, it offers new analysis and recording functions that provide essential data to the UAV's operators.

While flying the Inspire 1 above an area and taking images, users can simply tap any point on a screen image to view the temperature of that point, or select an area to measure the average, highest and lowest temperatures.

And if this is not enough, the camera can be calibrated to increase even more the accuracy of the temperature measurement. This is achieved by setting external parameters like background temperature, scene emissivity and more.

If photos are captured and saved in TIFF format, the temperature of each pixel can be recorded for further processing and analysis. When users set the temperature alert threshold, it will be automatically activating when that temperature is detected. This option is extremely useful durring search and rescue or inspection activities because it simplifies and accelerates the process.

With the Zenmuse XTR, the complex aerial thermal imaging has never been easier. It’s a very successful match between DJI’s specialization in high precision gimbals with the market-leading thermal imaging of FLIR. This enables users such as emergency services or the agricultural industry to scan with unparalleled precision, over large areas, saving the results for in-depth analysis and reports. Capture faster, with pinpoint precision, over large areas, then save them for analysis and reporting.

The seamless integration of FLIR and DJI provides complete camera control through the Go app. This gives you real-time configuration of camera controls like color palette selection, isotherms, level and span adjustment, and zoom just to name a few. It also lets you control your video recording or still image capture settings with the press of a finger, making capturing the thermal data you need as seamless as possible.

FLIR's camera provides high-sensitivity (50mK) infrared scanning at 640/30 fps or 336/60 fps depending on the camera model. This sensitivity provides accurate temperature measurements ideal for analytics and telemetry. Both cameras are available with four lens options to meet different business needs. Stabilized and controlled by a custom DJI gimbal, it provides smooth, clear imagery and 360 degrees of seamless rotational movement.

The FLIR cameras are capable of revealing details invisible to the naked eye by making subtle differences in temperature visible. This new view on the world can reveal when equipment or buildings are damaged, the location of lost people and much more.

Infra-red imagery requires optimization to ensure maximum definition for capturing information. The Zenmuse XT features a suite of image enhancements designed by FLIR including Digital Detail Enhancement™ (DDE); Smart Scene Optimization™ (SSO), which enhances extremes in bi-modal scenes; Active Contrast Enhancement™ (ACE) that adjusts scene contrast relative to its temperature difference; and Information Based HEQ™ (IBHEQ) which compresses complex image data to create the best quality image.

The Zenmuse XTR Advanced Radiometry 640 FAST version is undoubtedly one of the most advanced thermal solutions for aerial photography and one of the most sophisticated uses of todays UAV industry.
